School Newspaper Reporters Interview a Real Journalist

This morning, our four budding journalist who produce the school newspaper went to Bury to interview Matt Hunter who writes for the East Anglian Daily Times.
They had prepared questions to ask Matt about being a journalist.
Matt was able to explain about how the newspaper works and showed them the software they use.

Rather bizarrely, he then interviewed the children for an article he is going to write about them! A photographer also took their picture, ready to go in the East Anglian later this week.
Find out more in the next issue of the Wetheringsett Express!

Victorian Christmas Fayre

Today was the school's annual Christmas Fayre, organised by the Friends of the school. We are extremely fortunate to be able to hold this at the Middy Railway and this year it included train rides!

The sun was shining this morning and there was a fantastic turnout.

There were lovely craft stalls...

The school Singing Club sang beautifully in the sunshine...

Elves were working hard in the grotto...
Hair was braided and faces were painted...

Meanwhile, we had our own version of Downton Abbey taking place in the cafe!
In the Cafe
Mrs Miller
Mrs Knighton
A massive thank you  to all those who worked so hard to make the event such a wonderful success and for all the parents, friends and families as well as members of the community who came along to show their support. Finally, we need to thank the Middy for letting us hold it at the Railway, a wonderful setting!

A snapshot of school life!

Walking round the classrooms this afternoon, I was so impressed with all the fantatasic learning that was going on that I thought I would capture it and share it on the website.
Children in Reception and KS1 were doing some science work, looking at how materials change when they are cooked by cooking some bread. The bread was for their Pudding Lane Bakery role play area linked to their topic on The Great Fire of London.
Meanwhile, some of Years 5 and 6 were also engrossed in a science lesson, making parachutes to test.
The rest of Years 5 &6 were working with Mrs Coe from Debenham High School on some maths problem solving.

Finally, in Sycamore Class, Years 3 & 4 were practicing for their class assembly tomorrow morning. I was lucky to be able to get a sneak preview!

While I was in Sycamore Class, I couldn't resist taking photos of some of their wonderful dragons they made in Design Technology, linked to their work on the Anglo Saxons.

Open Evening for Prospective parents

OPEN EVENING
FOR PROSPECTIVE PARENTS
Monday 25th November
5.30- 7pm

Choosing a school for your child is an exciting but potentially daunting decision. Find out what we can offer you and your child by coming to our Open Evening.
Children and parents are both warmly invited to come along to meet  the Headteacher and staff as well as some of our pupils and to have a look around the school.
NO NEED TO BOOK - JUST TURN UP!

Vet Visit

Lime Tree Class's literacy has been based on books about pets. Their role play area is a veterinary surgery as well. To help them to find out about what happens at the vets, Ruby's mum (who is a veterinary nurse) came to talk to them. She brought in lots of things to show them, including a stethoscope and the clothes that vets wear for surgery and very kindly let the class borrow them for their role play area!

Children in Need

Children and staff(!) enjoyed coming to school in their pajamas today to raise money for Children in Need.

In the afternoon, they got together to play some team games, including 'the banana pass' where the last person in the team had to eat the banana before their team could win!

New Logo and Vision Statement

We were delighted to officially launch our new logo and vision statement today.

The logo was designed in consultation with pupils, parents, staff and governors. Everyone was keen to keep the train to represent the Mid Suffolk Light Railway which is an important part of the village. The idea of having a church came from some children who felt it was important to show that we are are a church school on our logo.

We also wanted to have a shared vision of our core aims and values that would underpin everything we do in school from our curriculum to our relationships with each other and asked the opinion of all our stakeholders on this too.

We came up with with the strap-line Building skills for life - Helping our children to become caring, confident and successful which reflects the shared belief that, although academic success is important and we are very proud of the high standards pupils at Wetheringsett achieve, we also need to develop the wider skills and attributes that our children will need when they go out into the world.

From the consultation, it also became clear that there were some core values behind this that were also important to us that we needed to articulate:
  • High but realistic expectations of each child
  • Supporting all to achieve to their full potential
  • Fostering enquiring, creative minds and inspired learners
  • Working in partnership with parents
  • Noticing, valuing, respecting and cherishing each child
  • Putting Christian values at the heart of all we do
  • Having courtesy, good manners and consideration for others
  • Embracing technology to learn and adapt to our changing world
  • Seeing school at the heart of the wide community
  • Appreciating and understanding our local and wider environment

The important thing is that we now all use this vision statement as a basis for all that we do in school so than anyone who visits the school should see all of these things in action.
